How Ya Feelin’?

So… how are you?
What’s in your head?
What’s in your heart?
What’s your body saying?
And maybe most importantly, how’s your Spirit?

I’m genuinely interested in your answers.

Eclipses, retrogrades, and the evolutionary churn of outer planet ingresses are rewriting the energetic atmosphere of our lives. What used to feel fixed or solid may no longer be so. And in the absence of certainty, there’s a strange kind of invitation:

Aries Season! The Art of Renewal: Spiritual Growth and Purifying Shadow Work at the Spring Equinox


Happy Spring! Each Spring Equinox offers its own unique energy to mark the beginning of the return of warmth, life, and light. And while the hours of daylight and darkness may be equal, sometimes the energy of the moment may not feel quite as balanced as the hours. The astrological chart of the moment the Sun moved into Aries at 5:03 AM Eastern on March 20, 2025, ushered us into themes both light and dark for the duration of Spring. This Aries Season offers influences of spiritual growth, beauty, self-reflection, and also the opportunity for intense transformation. With intense transformation, balance is often hard won, but is absolutely the goal.

This year our initiation into re-burgeoning life is unhurried and the threshold between Winter and Spring may not feel entirely clear. This new season also arrives with an infusion of the potential for spiritual awareness and the desire to reach for the Divine. The Sun (our conscious awareness), newly in Aries, conjoins Neptune (divine inspiration, compassion, beauty) blurring the edges between Self and Other. Besides the spiritual, other ways of living through this Neptunian lens include exploring our artistic gifts, opening our imaginations, or offering something that inspires others. Still another way is to feel like hibernating in our internal fantasy for just a little while longer…

There are some fiery energies to tap into, with the Aries Sun, Venus and Mercury being in an easy conversation with the Moon in Sagittarius, which lends itself to an expansive and excitable emotional environment. But even this fire is more like firelight than a blaze of glory, since Mercury and Venus are both Retrograde in Aries. They are encouraging us to retreat to our internal world to analyze and evaluate our patterns of communicating with our loved ones. And they’re encouraging us to suss out whether our relationships support and uphold our values. If they don’t, these Retrograde planets beg the question: what are we going to do about it?

There’s also a very intense undercurrent to all of this via Pluto, who is at large in this year’s Spring Equinox energy. His transformative presence is felt through our relationships, the way we think and communicate (how’s your self-talk?) pulling at our deepest emotional yearnings. There are potentially obsessive leanings with this dark presence, further holding the normally straightforward fire of Aries in check. But the purpose with Pluto is to get to the truth and to purify those areas of our lives he’s touching. So as we evaluate ourselves, our thought patterns, the ways in which we communicate (including with ourselves), and our relational values, we must be honest about what we find. And then we must take the path of the Spring caterpillar. Without dissolving in her chrysalis, she’ll never become the glorious butterfly. So, this year, in order to meet Spring in right alignment, we must go into our depths before we fly joyously into the sunlight on the fragrant breeze of Spring. But when we do, we’ll have done a little purifying shadow work, and will feel even lighter and happier for having done it.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Virgo – Perfecting Your Vision During this Time of Uncertainty

In the hushed hours before dawn tomorrow, March 14, 2025, at 2:56 AM Eastern Daylight Time, we collectively experience a Total Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in the late degrees of Virgo. This marks the first Eclipse this year, and it is made quite powerful by very close alignments with:

  • The North and South Nodes of the Moon which are about balancing Karma and Dharma – your past and your future – your comfort zone with what you’re meant to be stretching toward, which probably feels a little scary.
  • Saturn who symbolizes building a new solid foundation, your ambition, and your absolute AUTHENTICITY of Self.
  • Chiron who asks “where do you belong now?” And who let’s you know it’s time to heal your past and move on to a wiser, more integrated version of you.
  • Uranus, who requires you to live out your one-of-kind unique characteristics, and insists that it’s time for a huge paradigm shift. If you haven’t offered up your quirky, outside-the-box talents, the rest of us are missing them and need you to bring them forth.
  • And Neptune, who fuels your imagination, your inspiration, your connection to beauty, and who pushes you to reach for the Divine in Self and Other, all with unconditional love and acceptance.

This Lunar Eclipse is a powerful moment of culmination and release, in anticipation of birth and renewal heralded by the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aries on March 29.

This Virgo energy invites you to enter this Eclipse Cycle by evaluating what is being illuminated for you right now. Is this glowing reflected light bringing clarity and consciousness to something you’ve been envisioning or dreaming about for some time? Is your dream coming into clearer focus? This full-moon moment of culmination is about celebrating what has been achieved and what WILL be achieved, and releasing what no longer serves. This practice creates a psychological and emotional gateway to new beginnings.

One of the beautiful things about the energy of the Virgo/Pisces Axis (the Full Moon is in Virgo, opposing the Sun and many other planets in Pisces) is the potential to bring balance between the dream and reality – helping to push the vision in your head into tangible reality. Virgo energy assists you in pulling the seed from your imagination and planting it into the fertile soil of earthy manifestation. And she loves doing that. Virgo’s focus is to serve.

Part of the energy of this Full Moon Eclipse is the connection between Uranus and Saturn, making it clear that you are inhabiting a time when your foundation isn’t as solid as you’ve believed. And this uncertainty leaves you open to all kinds of possibilities that you probably haven’t encountered or thought about before. As long as you can be flexible of emotion, spirit and mind, this can be an incredibly fertile place to occupy, showing you multiple avenues of potential as you process the best ways to move forward.

The Virgo Moon and South Node asks you to call on previously honed powers of discernment and analysis, so that you can make sense of all the possibilities that are lining the road to the future. All those planets currently in Pisces are opening you up to so many visions of possibility and inspiring you toward so many dreams! But with this Lunar Eclipse, the Virgo Moon and South Node also lend you the capacity to say “yes, this” and “no, that.” Virgo’s energy is naturally aligned with reality, and with the capacity to judge what’s useful now. Virgo energy inherently knows what is most likely to grow and ripen to maturity so that it can be harvested when the time is right. The Virgo Full Moon can help you choose what to plant and grow, and she will direct you to the most nourishing choices for your body, mind, and spirit. Choosing wisely means that your health and well-being will be maintained and honed to perfection – or as close to perfection as possible. Once again, Virgo functions in service to who you are.

This Total Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Virgo is truly a cosmic reset, urging you to release what no longer serves you and align with your higher purpose. Mars Retrograde in Aries Begins Today – Have a listen on how to navigate!

Unlike Mercury Retrograde, which happens three times a year, and Venus and Jupiter Retrograde, which both occur once a year, Mars Retrograde only happens every two years. This means we’re not quite as accustomed to, or as comfortable with, the energy of Mars (forward motion and determined action) stopping, and then heading backwards. It might take some adjusting.

Mars Symbolizes ACTION and Forward Motion

Mars symbolizes initiating action. He is very much about connecting to your own will and your own desires, and then taking action to get those desires met. When Mars goes Retrograde, that need to get the party started and the ability to push for what you want loses steam. Mars Retrograde is less about taking action and more about figuring out what you really do want, and how you go about getting it. How DO you take action to get what you want? Do you take action on your will positively? With self-mastery? Or could you elevate your consciousness and ultimately your actions in this arena?

How to Navigate Mars Retrograde

For the next several weeks, until Mars goes Direct on November 13, if you use the Mars Retrograde period optimally, you’ll have the opportunity to answer those questions. With this planet retracing his steps, we’re also meant to retrace ours. We’re meant to recover the ground we’ve been actively covering since since the last full week of July.

Give some thought to how you’ve been taking action on your desires since that time. And think about what you got excited about in mid-August… with Mars Retrograde you now have the opportunity to align your actions more consciously. If your pet project begins to flag, this is a clue that you’ve got some tweaking to do. The idea is to get a little introspective about how you do what you do, why you do these things, and your motivation behind them.

Energy is Pulled Back from Forward Motion, Often Leading to Frustration or Anger

While Mars is Retrograde we may find that our “push” becomes ineffective, or our interest wanes, or due to circumstances we didn’t foresee, we can’t move forward any longer the way we’d like to.

Try not to despair… with conscious navigation of this time, when the Retrograde is over in November (or more likely when we get beyond the shadow of the Retrograde in early January 2021) we’ll have uncovered what we need to change about how connect with our desires, how we take action, and will have learned what we need to do to align the two appropriately.

Frustration is often the hallmark of Mars Retrograde periods, but knowing that we’re meant to be retracing our steps and re-imagining our desires can be SO helpful in ameliorating that frustration. For many, pushing forward unchecked and without introspection ends not only in frustration, but in anger – and taken to extremes, rage.

This Isn’t Just Any Mars Retrograde – Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter Are Involved. Extremes Are Probable.

This particular Mars Retrograde definitely has the potential to go to extremes. Between now and early January, Mars is in an explosive conversation with the planet Pluto. And Pluto is everything extreme and intense… Mars is also throwing out a dare to Saturn and Jupiter during much of the Retrograde period, further complicating the energy and adding to the potential for frustration.

So please proceed with caution. Understand the need to engage introspectively – to recognize your motivations and re-align with your desires. And practice empathy for those around you who haven’t been educated on how best to use this time. They’re probably going to need it.

Discernment: the ability to distinguish; the ability to judge well

Discernment is one of the highest characteristics of Virgo, and at this New Moon there are FIVE planets in Virgo. These five planets are all of the PERSONAL planets: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars. It’s time to be discerning – about YOU. The way you communicate, how you commit and why, the way you react (turn that into responsiveness), what you allow into the NOW from your past (beam your light toward the future), the way you take action on your desires (make those actions masterful), and the way you LOVE.

Ground yourself through that discernment to free yourself to be exactly, UNIQUELY, brilliantly who you are meant to be. Let your genius shine through your service to yourself and others. Don’t just begin something new at this new moon – begin the RIGHT THING that rings the TRUE YOU.

This is moment of intention. Intend with keen discernment toward the AUTHENTIC YOU. We have Uranus in a very easy conversation with all that Virgo energy. What an opportunity to find yourself in the details of your TRUTH, and to liberate yourself from self-deprecation and hyper self-criticism – the agonizing pitfall of Virgo. Question old limits and lean into what feels risky, which is what Uranus is asking of us… it’s an odd combination. The grounding, practicality of Virgo being liberated by revolutionary Uranus. The Spring Equinox and the Resurrection of Life

The Wheel of Life continues its turning, and with this fleeting moment of equal day and night at the Spring Equinox, we are delivered into the freshness of being, the bursting forth of life, and resurrection from the darkness and cold of the Winter just past.

As the Sun continues his sacred, life-giving journey and enters the sign of Aries, he advances higher in the sky, increasing in heat and intensity. This annual enlightenment encourages the recently cold ground to warm, the plants to push their way above the newly verdant earth, to unfurl their tender, new leaves, soon to burst with flowers and seeds… everything swells with life once more. We in the Northern Hemisphere are reminded each March that the battle between darkness and light, lost each Winter and won each Summer, stands at a truce – even if only briefly. This Spring Equinox détente delivers both relief and a promise – that as the light strengthens and warmth returns to stir and embolden us, and the glistening hues and fragrances of nature enchant and astonish our senses, we know that the descent into darkness is always rewarded with the sojourn back up into the light… into life.

Yin-Yang-flora-fauna“Equinox” describes that moment of equality between the darkness on one side and the light on the other. This means that we must emerge from the darkness to go into the light – to be resurrected. This idea, this symbolism of the battle between dark and light, is the source of stories passed down since the dawn of time. We witness our connection to this eternal battle via great literature, and our most popular modern books and films. From a spiritual perspective, much religious mythology across the world and throughout time has also offerred stories of conquering darkkness. It is no coincidence that one of the most enduring religious stories, that of crucifixion, death, and resurrection (shared by numerous deities throughout religious history), is the one many embrace during Spring – the time of Easter (resurrection of Jesus), Ostara (return of life from death), Passover (resurrection from slavery), and Isra and Mi’raj (ascension of Muhammad). There is an inherent knowledge deep within us, that the cycle of life and the ceaseless journey of the Sun, will bring us back into life and light – eternally.

Each Spring Equinox offers its own unique energy to mark the beginning of the return of warmth, life, and light. The astrological chart of the moment the Sun moves into Aries at 12:17 PM Eastern on March 20, 2018, ushers us into and provides the “background” influences for the duration of the Season. This year our first thrust into re-burgeoning life is one of mastering the challenge between impatience and passion, with the wisdom of the natural timing of belonging, of acceptance, and of healing. Mars challenges us to push forward with our desires, while Saturn and Chiron make sure we do so with pragmatism, and the experience of the time-tested. Actually, the Serenity Prayer comes to mind with this Spring energy – renew and reinvigorate your life with the serenity to accept the things you can’t change, to have the courage to change the things you can, and to call on wisdom to know the difference.

Meditating with the Super New Moon in Gemini, May 25, 2017

MEDITATING WITH THE NEW MOON – Thursday, May 25, 2017 – 3:44 PM Eastern

NEW MOON IN GEMINI
As with every New Moon, this one marks the beginning of a fresh new cycle. Because the Moon is so close to Earth giving us a Super New Moon – even though we can’t see her when she’s new – your responses may be stronger, the pull greater. During a Super Moon, due to the closeness of Luna to the Earth, the ocean’s tides run higher, and I expect, your responses are more strongly felt as well.

Being in the sign of Gemini, this is a fertile time to engage your mind and to communicate what you think, what you learn, and what you know. Give your curiosity free reign, and allow that restless, questioning spirit to guide you to the next exciting moment, and then the next, much like a bee gathering nectar – only you’re gathering information, enjoying the experience, and banking it all mentally to use later.

If you’ve been reticent about sharing new ideas, use this New Moon to break free of whatever has held you back, and trust that this is the time to offer your ideas to others. Emotionally the energy of Gemini isn’t prone to deeply felt or “sticky” exchanges, but rather feels that the mind is the path to the heart. With that understanding, during this New Moon appeal to the minds of others, to their intellect, and watch as the seeds of knowledge and information you plant begin to take root and grow. 

Sacred Energy within this Super New Moon

For those of you who watch midpoints, Neptune, the planet of Source, of connection to the Divine, is squaring the midpoint between the Sun/Moon conjunction and Mars, all in Gemini. This creates a challenge to bring spirituality and sacred flow into this new beginning, as well as mystic, visual and creative stimuli. 

And for those who appreciate the inclusion of the Goddesses, later this evening the Super New Moon will connect in a lovely angle to Vesta – the Lady of Focus, the restoration of the heart, sacred sexuality, and the commitment to the Self to become whole unto the Self. During the dark of the moon this night find an opportunity to be alone to restore and rejuvenate your symbolic “virginity” or wholeness.

HOW TO MEDITATE WITH THE MOON

Using the simple Moon thoughts above are a wonderful way to begin a daily meditation practice that keeps you focused on, and grounded in, the emotional energy of the Cosmos each and every day.
 
You can do a very simple 8/4 count meditation, which means you settle into a comfortable position, close your eyes, focus on your breath, and breathe in to a slow count of 8, hold it for 4 counts, and then breathe out for a slow count of 8. Hold your breath again for 4 counts before breathing in again. On the in-breath recite a word or phrase from the Moon Meditation in your mind, focusing on that energy and holding it, and then consciously release that same energy out into the world on the out-breath. Then begin the process again on the in-breath, either using the same word/phrase you’re working with (until it feels comfortable and “right”) or move on to the next word or phrase from the Moon Meditation.

Astrological Transits – The Intuition of the Soul

 

What I love about Astrology is that it shows you your intentions and potentials… and it maps the energy of the moment – any moment, whether a birth, or right now, or a particular time on a day 200 years ago. And that energy can be compared to the unique energy you were born with – which in Astrology is represented by your birth chart. When you make that comparison, between the “now” energy and the “birth” energy, you get what astrologers call “transits.”

Incredibly, using that comparison – those transits – gives you scads of rich information about where you’re up for evolutionary change and transformation. If you know your birth chart and your current transits (comparing the current energy to the energy with which you were born) – you have a remarkable tool for navigating life and for bringing your potentials into reality. I love this stuff!

I like to say to my clients, “Live your transits – listen to them – because they are the intuition of your Soul.” Your Soul, or Fate, or your God Self, or Core Self – whatever you want call that guiding direction – can be seen and understood through your birth chart and the transits that are impacting it, meaning you, in any given moment. Listen deeply and respond intuitively – and fearlessly!

Here’s just a little example:

A woman we will call Adara experienced the orbiting planet Uranus making a challenging transit to her birth Moon in the 4th house. During this time (about a two year period) she lost her job and subsequently her home and was forced to move to a new state to live with relatives.

This certainly brought new challenges into her life and created much anxiety for her emotionally, to put it mildly.

However, the transiting planet Uranus was also connecting with her birth Jupiter/Sun combination in her first house and with her Midheaven (the portal into the house of career.) This meant that while her life was certainly being shaken up, Adara was also being supported and could experience great benefit and find tremendous meaning through the experience. 

Shortly after she made the necessary move, which initially felt incredibly unfair and difficult, Adara unexpectedly met someone who propelled her toward an entirely new career where she soon felt both excited and fulfilled. She was finally doing her life’s work!

Without the unfortunate loss of her previous job and all that resulted from that, Adara wouldn’t have had the opportunity that ended up unlocking her heart and bringing her happiness.

The beauty of this story is that not only was someone propelled toward a more joyful existence, but that Adara, through astrology, was able to understand, sometime during the midst of these events, that some sort of upheaval and life changes were necessary to her evolution – to becoming who she was meant to become. She was then able to prepare to expect the unexpected.

After Adara began making discoveries about herself and what was impacting her via several astrology sessions, she no longer felt that something sinister was being done TO her – but instead understood that theses changes were her Self – her Soul – speaking directly to her to help her change what needed to be changed in order to move her toward the state of fulfillment. She decided to remain positive and to look at her challenges as opportunities for growth and possibility – and therefore she was rewarded with exactly that. And she was also able to understand the time frame during which all of this would happen, because transits, the impact of orbiting planets to your birth chart, are very easily timed.

What a great story, yes?
