Taking a break from “By the Light of the Moon” Sat. & Sun. – but here’s a bit about the Moon in Taurus over the weekend…

Taurus-bull-content

Hi All!

I so appreciate all of you and the fantastic response I’ve had for my new column “By the Light of the Moon.”

Last weekend the readers dropped, as I expected them to, so this weekend and on weekends in the future, I’ll take a writing break on Saturdays and Sundays and be right back to it on Mondays. Hope that sounds fair!

This weekend, the whole weekend, the Moon is in Taurus. So just quickly here (I can’t help myself!) the Moon in Taurus wants good food, good drink, sensual affection and to revel and be still in what it has and where it is. Taurus likes to be near its possessions – and enjoy them. So cook at home, eat, drink and make your lover happy! No sudden changes needed or desired.

Saturday, there’s an opposition from the Moon to Saturn, so issues around feeling isolated/low or around family/mother might arise. If you’re single, give yourself permission to stay home and enjoy the down time. Thinking about it, digestion might not be that great though. On the high road of this equation, our feelings of commitment, stability and security may be stirred and we can find contentment in them.

Sunday, the Moon squares Mars… possibly a recipe for high tempers. Mars in Aquarius wants to go, do and discover, while the Moon in Taurus wants to stay in and commune with family at home. I don’t know who, or which part of you, wins this debate, but watch for overly defensive or overly aggressive tendencies with this combo. Best case? Compromise… and have another glass of wine.

Thanks and have a great weekend!!

Michelle

That lustrous orb that sweeps our oceans to and fro is also the harbinger who describes and defines our day-to-day fluctuating energy. As the face of the Moon is ever changing, so are the feelings and intuitions that push and pull us through our daily rounds. The sign of the Zodiac the Moon occupies changes about every 2-and-a-half-days and as she orbits she makes different connections to other planets, touching all of them in different ways as she speeds her way through the sky. Each of us will resonate to the energies of the flirting, capricious Luna in different ways and with different reactions according to the energies of our own birthcharts – our own dispositions and levels of consciousness. However, this comes as a guide to help you understand which fickle face our Lady Moon is showing today.

If you know your birthchart, or at least your Sun, Moon, or Rising signs (or better yet – all three – and if you don’t know any of them, maybe it’s time for you to send me an email) knowing where the Moon is playing and who she’s playing with will help you understand how to navigate your day and why you may be feeling the way you are or why you’re having the reactions or responses that you’re having.

I’m going to try to write this everyday for you – or at least, most days. No promises being made here, but I hope the days I manage it, that you’ll find some peace, and maybe even gain a little edge, in knowing. I want to dedicate this effort to Kat. She told me that she missed my posts. So Kat – this if for you. If any of you enjoy this lovingly crafted energetic gift – please let me know! It will help to keep me motivated to continue…

With the Moon still in Aries until tonight, and with the 90 degree, tense communication that exists today between that Moon and the Sun in Capricorn, there are bound to be some dynamic feelings that get us up and about with the goal of releasing the tension between our emotions and who we believe we are.

Those of us with more Fire and Air planets and points in our birthcharts (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius) will be pulling for the Moon in Aries team, and those with more Earth and Water planets and points (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces) will be rooting for Sun/Mercury team. The goal though isn’t for the instinctive “me-first” emotions to win out over the ambitions, sense of propriety, thought processes and ideas of the Self… but rather to do something productive with the gathered tension between them.

To put this more bluntly, those of us more geared to being idea people, the thinkers, might be a little at odds with the ones who put the ideas into practice and maintain them – the doers. And if you have elements of both of these ways of being inside you, then you may be feeling at odds inside yourself.

But this is GOOD!

Without this kind of building tension, we’d pretty much all be sitting around waiting for the other person to create something or get something done. “What’s for dinner?” “I don’t know… did you make anything?” “No, you?” “No.”

See what I mean? Without the planets butting heads and building that tense energy, we’d all still be sitting in caves in the dark and the cold.

So as you go about your day trying to get stuff done and possibly feeling that there are way too many road blocks in front of your progress, realize that it’s just the way to get you motivated to suss up enough “umph” to get over the wall and do whatever you have to do better than you would’ve without the challenge. Challenges bring out the best in us. They make us think more deeply about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it and force us to get more creative as well. When we’re challenged we try harder and our focus is laser sharp. We’re likely to stay on task for the long-haul. When nothing challenges us, we just oh-dee-doh along the same rut, possibly asking, “What’s the point?”

So harness the fire and competitive spirit of Aries, and the solid, steady pragmatic approach of Capricorn to build a better… something. Maybe a better you?

Starting tonight at 8:36 Eastern, the Moon moves into Taurus. That will help fix what we’re building today in place.

The day begins with quite a bit of relational intensity as the Moon in Aries, symbolizing pretty high energy emotions, throws down the gauntlet to both Pluto and Venus in Capricorn. Pluto and Venus coming together want to go to the depths of our relationships and heal them – or control them, depending on the way you use the energy. And Capricorn operates with authority… and wants to advance itself. There could potentially be head-butting and some scrambling to see who’s on top with these 3 players (the Moon, Venus and Pluto) involved. Both sides in this challenge, Moon in Aries on the one hand and Venus and Pluto in Capricorn on the other, really want to be right and will, in different ways, go about making that happen. So just be aware of the potential for a little drama, and try to make sure that you aren’t the one perpetuating it. There are better ways to use this energy.

This same configuration is great for uncovering things – research. Stuff that breaks open taboos and brings darkness to the light. Sherlock Holmes would love this energy!

As the day progresses things lighten up as the Moon moves away from that challenging point, and links herself in a “let’s play nice” with Mars. Still high energy that’s fairly testosterone driven, but this could turn the tide in favor of physical, rather than psychological, themes. Get moving. Go for a run. Work out. Release tension. Try not to use this as a way to be a bully about whatever went down earlier. 😉

Venus also touches Saturn today (as does Pluto – but that’s been that way for a while) and if we can get ourselves beyond the earlier fireworks, we could actually hunker down to some pretty productive work that we could find some sort of opportunity through. If you can manage it, don’t let this pass you by unused.

Thanks so much for being here!

Emotionally speaking (since we’re talking about the Moon here)… it’s time to fly your freak flag high and proud! Today the Moon not only moves into “me first” Aries at 11:07 AM Eastern (and I can say that guilt free since I was born with an Aries Moon) but it’s pairing with Uranus, that planet of high idealism and reform, of rebellion and breaking the status-quo. My favorite!

You might expect to feel some agitation today… possibly because you need some changes and haven’t quite taken the steps forward to put them into play. Today’s Moon in Aries making that rebellious conjunction to Uranus might be just the impetus you need to break out. If you don’t actually take action, the level of agitation and irritation that you feel simply escalates. That means today is a great one to find or create for yourself an outlet for percolating steam. Something physical would be ideal.

Moon/Uranus describes the need to be emotionally true to your own unique feelings… to what nurtures you even if it looks radically different than what you expected or what from what others have put into place for you. Moon in Aries describes the need to act on your emotions. I hope I’m painting a clear picture here… 🙂 It’s a day to express your independence and to explore radical feelings, even though the Sun and Mercury in Capricorn – Capricorn being the Keeper of the Status-Quo – might not feel too comfortable with all that. So as you can imagine, there could be some push-pulling going on today, especially in the afternoon (Eastern time).

As the day progresses, Venus makes a strong connection to Pluto, intensifying and deepening our needs in relationship – and bringing out obsessive tendencies and possibly power plays in emotionally challenging situations. Venus/Pluto interaction also describes intensity in desire, in love, in sexuality – so the tantra minded couples out there may want to explore this in seclusion. The same energy can bring out and up some very deeply spiritual cleansing and healing as well. Deeply psychological rapport with loved ones and healers could develop.

The archetypes to consider today are The Rebel, The Warrior, The Outcast, The Genius, The Seducer, The Shaman, The Divine Couple and Eros.

It’s a pretty intense soup of energies today… erratic and powerful. Have fun dodging the mines. And if you can, lift the potential up into the enlightening, spiritually purifying healing that can be yours.

January 15, 2013 – By the Light of the Moon – The Moon in Pisces Connects to Saturn… and the Nodes of the Moon

(The above 3 paragraphs will be repeated each “By the Light of the Moon” post, so if you’ve read it before and know it by heart, just skip to the stuff after the … All times given in this column are Eastern time. )

Just after midnight Eastern Time this morning of Jan 15, 2013, the lovely Pisces Moon made a sweet aspect to Saturn. (That is possible you know! The “sweet” part I mean.) Last night being a school night, I’m not sure that we in the Southern U.S. were able to gain the benefit of Saturn connecting to our emotional natures, which, as this is the beginning of a work-week, is sort of a drag. We could’ve tapped into that combo with some great, disciplined results. For those of you in parts of the world where you were awake and working during that time, you probably, very unlike yesterday, were ready to get things done and to do them well.

Is there such a thing as pragmatic sleep? If there is, it would be inspired by this combination. Or maybe, those of us in the US were very good and took ourselves off to bed at a very reasonable and practical hour as a result of the Moon’s connection to Saturn. That is actually what I did! Or maybe some of us stayed awake… with both the Moon and Saturn in water signs, Pisces and Scorpio respectively, perhaps some of us took the opportunity to work on our deeper emotional issues.

The Moon has moved away from that connection with Saturn by 7 AM Eastern – and it doesn’t make any other planetary connections all day. (Today would be a great time to really explore pure Pisces energy. You can get a jump start on that by re-reading yesterday’s post which expressed much about that.)

What the Moon does connect with today are the North and South Nodes of the Moon – in an aspect that is both feels comfortable and brings opportunity. These Nodes are not planets, but points in space. The South Node describes what we already know from the past (if you’re woo-woo enough you can interpret that as past lives) and where we are very comfortable, while the North Node describes what we’re meant to be learning (in this life-time if you will), and the path our lives are meant to take to ensure our Soul’s evolution. The Nodes, in my estimation, are very big deals.

As the Moon reaches out to her North and South Nodes today, I suggest you look strongly to the past in order to get an inspired idea of where you should be heading in the future. Do this from an emotional perspective… what nurtures you? What makes you feel connected? When, where and how do you feel in touch with your inner Divinity – and knowing that how can you make it happen frequently so that you are supported and grounded enough to do your life’s work in the best possible way this time around – balancing karma?

This is all lovely fodder for your creative hearts today… happy exploring!

Mmmmmmmm… A dreamy Pisces Moon. And connecting to its ruler Neptune this morning. (Plus rain if you’re living in the Southern USA). NOT a great recipe for leaving our slumberous reveries, getting out of bed on a Monday and getting back to work – unless you’re a poet or an artist or musician. Then this is your moment to be inspired.

The Moon in Pisces asks us to emotionally connect to all that is, to dissolve boundaries and see grace and beauty in everyone and everything. Because it washes away our hard edges and the lines we’ve drawn in the sand, we can connect to others and to all energy in ways that filter through our usual parameters; psychically, sensitively, and with compassion. Pisces, and its ruler Neptune, seek Divine love. They seek inspiration and transcendence. They seek to leave reality and linger in the world of imagining, the world of imagery, the world of glamour. (“Glamour” as the more ancient definition of “the appearance is made different from the reality.”) When the Moon is in Pisces, the Universe wants to inspire us.

When the Moon is in Pisces we may have trouble separating the truth from the fantasy. We may vacillate when it’s time to make a decision, and perhaps be more prone to a little self-sacrifice, particularly if we have strong placements in Pisces or a prominent Neptune in our birthchart. The downside of this gentle, tolerant Moon is the need to escape, so be forewarned that addictions you thought had been tamed can re-service or just simple checking out – getting lost in daydreams or having a bit too much wine – if things get too stressful.

Sensitivity is high today, so tread carefully with those you know are thin-skinned, and be aware that you may fall into that category moreso today than usual yourself.

Early evening we may find that imagination and creativity are high, as is romance and the longing for redemption via deep, profound emotional experiences… the Moon connects with both Venus and Pluto this evening. We also have a connection from the Moon to Jupiter, so watch for overextending your heart, but roll with the search for meaning. And as the Moon and Chiron, the Wounded Healer, conjoin, be aware that emotional places inside that you thought were healed may arise again for attention. There can also be the opportunity for deep self-healing, or for feeling compelled to mentor and hold another safe through a challenging spot.

The best possible use of these energies today is to be open and responsive to the Spiritual – whatever and however that may come to you. There is so much beauty to be found there!

I’m posting today for both Saturday and Sunday, Jan 12 and 13… just because I don’t want to write tomorrow. 🙂 A day off after 5 on will feel good.

The Moon is in Aquarius both days as of 4:01 AM Eastern time today. The feeling is quirky, upbeat and erratic. It’s time to tune into yourself as unique, and tap into what you have to offer that is original – whatever is yours and yours alone to give. The more your gifts are intended for the greater good the better. The need to be independent and free could pervade the weekend… particularly for those of us who are naturally geared that way; those of us with planets and points strongly associated with Uranus, Jupiter or Mars, or in the signs Aquarius, Sagittarius and Aries. It could be easy to detach emotionally these next couple of days – or we could notice others near us pulling away, needing some space. Just know that it’s not you… it’s that energy of Aquarius that asks us to detach for the long-view perspective.

The Moon is approaching Mars today and will make direct contact early, early tomorrow morning, so I’d say that there’s a chance that tempers could rise. Things could get pretty heated. Alternatively, there could simply be an abundance of high energy to tap into. The need for something new, exciting – some fresh air – is pervasive. With Venus squaring Uranus – expect the unexpected when it comes to relating with those you’re closest to, and with what you’re willing to spend your money on. You might find something out of the blue, think it’s absolutely irresistible and make an impulse buy. ‘Course, you could do that with a lover as well! Sudden splits and sudden attractions… that’s the feeling. Just bear in mind that these impulses are TEMPORARY and don’t make any outrageous decisions unless a catalyst is what you’ve been waiting for.

For the majority of us, it’s a great time to simply take advantage of some bright, happy, upbeat energy that offers a much needed lightness of being. Intelligent discourse is a possibility as well as unexpected dazzling new ideas from your emotional genius. Give them space to breathe and take life!

Oh! Keep in mind the Moon is Void-of-Course ALL DAY on Sunday – 3:37 AM until 8:20 AM Eastern time on Monday, a couple of hours after the Moon moves into Pisces.  During a Void Moon it’s best not to jump whole heartedly into left brain activities. The right brain – our creative side – is much more comfortable at these times!  Expectations are likely not to be met during a Void, and it’s easy to “miss the boat.” Don’t plan important practical, logical, linear, or legal stuff during this time, and don’t push a situation expecting to get what you want. That might be a challenge with that challenging Venus/Uranus connection this weekend, so just be aware! And logical, linear stuff is the stuff of Aquarius, so enjoy that irony. (For more on the Void-of-Course Moon click here.)

Have fabulous weekend! See you on Monday!

Today is a very calm day in the heavens… the Moon is what is known as void-of-course,” meaning she’s making no major connections to any of the planets. All is quiet on the celestial front – well, as quiet as possible when the Moon is in fiery, talkative Sagittarius. (If you missed yesterday’s post the Moon moved into Sagittarius yesterday morning, Jan 8, 2013 at  3:28 AM Eastern and she’ll be in Sagittarius until tomorrow morning, Jan 10 at 3:54 AM Eastern. Yesterday’s column gives you the low down on what it means when the Moon is in that sign… check it out.) This void Moon is interesting in that she remains void the entire day! Most often the Moon will be void for a few hours to several hours… but from 9:28 PM last night until 3:54 AM this coming morning, no major connections are being made. That’s over 30 hours!

When the Moon is void, not only are connections not being made from the Moon to any other planets – emotional connections aren’t being made between we of the human persuasion. Not that we aren’t trying… it’s more like a game of hit or miss. Here’s a for instance: You’ve made an arrangement to meet someone in front of a particular address at 1 PM. You show up, despite a few minor upsets that had you thinking you were going to be late, and as you get out of your car you see the person you were meeting driving away. You check your phone, which you thought was turned on, but it wasn’t. When you’re powered up you find the text: “Where are you? I’ve been waiting for almost an hour. Gone back to work.” Something similar to this scenario already happened to me this morning! A client rang to see if we did in fact have an appointment, hoping that we did and that I’d seen her very early morning email confirming. I didn’t know she had been trying to get in touch, and already had something else scheduled in that slot.

That’s the void Moon. We try to connect – but often, we just miss.

During a void-of-course Moon it’s best, if possible, to flow with the day and try to stay in a very zen space emotionally. Whatever comes, comes. What ever doesn’t, doesn’t. Be flexible. If you have the space and the opportunity in your schedule, do things like write in your journal, listen to music, write poetry, watch a movie. You get the idea. Whatever you’re doing don’t push. That way you don’t set yourself up for disappointment.

Now that you’re tuned in to the void Moon, I do want to add that there is one connection the Moon is making to another body. Ceres. Ceres isn’t considered a planet per se – she is known as a Goddess Asteroid who in 2006 was promoted in status from asteroid to dwarf planet (the same status that Pluto was demoted to). The symbolism of Ceres is that of nurturer. She’s a Goddess of the Harvest and the Grain – a real feeder. Today’s Sagittarius Moon is making an opposition to Ceres today, which means that Ceres is in Gemini. I’m taking this to mean that if we are to make any emotional connections today, they should run along the lines of nurturing a loved one’s mental capacities and shared knowledge with wisdom and honoring their points of view. And of course, if you actually connect, it wouldn’t hurt to nurture each other in a real sense with a good meal…

Writer’s Astrology: Plot & Character Development – and Overcoming Writer’s Block

Get Started Today (or get finished!) Writing the Novel,
Play or Screenplay of Your Dreams!

When we work together using astrology to develop your creative project – your novel, play, or screenplay – you’ll be amazed at how easily you’ll be inspired and able to move forward with your story and how in-depth you can create your characters. With the charts we select for your main characters, they’ll come to life with all their facets clearly showing. Your characters will express the complexities that every real person is born with. And you’ll be able to use the astrological time-line to understand what happens throughout your character’s lives, and use this time-line to develop what happens next and next and next in your story. This is great stuff! No more writer’s block or wondering where your characters are heading… this is the opportunity to write the great story you’ve been waiting to write!

Testimonial:

“I’ve just completed Michelle’s 5-session package on Writer’s Astrology: Character and Plot Development and Overcoming Writer’s Block. I’m notoriously bad at taking the time to know my characters before I write. I just want to jump in and begin the story. Thank heavens for Michelle. We started with my heroine’s birth chart, followed with her transit chart, brought in the hero’s birth chart, then his transit chart, and ended with a composite chart for both. I’ve never had so much fun with my characters. They’ve lived in my head for a couple years now while I’ve sorted out possible story directions, so I knew certain attributes and emotions. But the charts and Michelle’s interpretive insights gave me a whole new perspective on their psychology profiles, their interactions with other people, their goals, resistance, needs, and fears. The transit charts wonderfully illuminated their personal journeys at the time of their meeting and showed the challenges and opportunities they would face with each other. I’m so indebted to Michelle’s brilliant understanding and explanation of astrology as it pertains to human behavior. What a time-saver these sessions are. And we had so much fun exploring! I have so many ideas in my head that my keyboard stays hot with writing all the juicy scenes that come directly from our extensive work together. I highly recommend these sessions to any writer who wants a deeper understanding of their characters, a more complex plot, and to have fun writing.”

Happy Winter Solstice! The Sun at Midwinter: A Meditation, by John Matthews as read by Michelle Gregg

Father Yule...

Father Yule…

Listen to The Sun at Midwinter: A Meditation by John Matthews, as read by Michelle Gregg

The longest night of the year is upon us and it is time to reflect on the year behind us and ponder the year ahead… a time to cozy up in front of a fire and let go of any negativity that we’ve experienced during the past 12 months – and make wishes for and welcome the fresh new year that’s coming.

Make yourself a cup of hot chocolate or sip a glass of wine and then listen to the Meditation below as I’ve recorded it. It is a very special way to bring in Mid-Winter at the Winter Solstice. The meditation is called “The Sun at Midwinter” and was written by John Matthews. You can find it in a book titled The Winter Solstice: The Sacred Traditions of Christmas. (Here it is on Amazon.)

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. My family listens to this meditation as I recorded it years ago every Winter Solstice…
