Testimonials… Wow! My weekly clients speak out!

A few of my long-term clients have written some pretty great things about the sessions we do together. I’m delighted to share!
Feeling pretty good about this wonderful work…

“Michelle is a beautiful friend and mentor. As a master astrologer, she has helped me to see my life as the unique, messy, and wonderful adventure that it can be. As a therapist, she has gently and intuitively guided me into making better decisions, despite my stubborn resistance. With Michelle’s help, I have had the courage to start a new business, improve my family relationships, and finally let go of a destructive, twenty-year long alcohol addiction, something that seemed utterly impossible. Michelle is in tune with the magic of the universe, and she is a powerful force for good in this world!”

~Joan Bacot

“Thanks for another great session! I can’t tell you how light I feel after talking with you each time – just illuminated from within, and happy! Like I had walked outside and got to watch the bees in the sunny garden. Or something equally as joyful to me. I love these consultations with you, and find them SO very valuable and life-changing (!!!)… I can’t well-describe, the part of just feeling bathed in love; I don’t know whether it’s from having touched deep truths and feeling validated and explained, or whether it’s from talking with you, who seem so bright and genuine. But there is a sure bliss after we hang up! Then starts the integration of things we discussed…”
J. James

“I’d heard Michelle was an amazing astrologer/counselor from a friend who recommended I have a session with her. I thought it would be fun and interesting to have a chat. That was about 6 months ago. Little did I know then how my life would change for the better as a result. What started as a one session curiosity has become a regular counseling session every two weeks. I prioritize my sessions with Michelle.  Even when things get tough financially I keep my sessions with her…not just because she can read charts, but because I see and deeply feel results. I am a better me. We peel the layers of the onion, getting at deep issues and addressing them. I am in awe of this woman and how she works…and how amazing I feel as a result of working with her. She listens…interprets…asks…sees…she truly works WITH me to help me with my questions. She utilizes her knowledge and depth of experience with astrology, combines it with her sense of humor, her curiosity, and her solid desire to be there for her clients. Does she provide value in one session?  YES!  But I believe the real value is in working with her over time…as I have and continue to do…as the planets move and the issues change…as she gets to know you and your birth chart and how the transits affect YOU. She wants to help you grow…learn…understand…address things…love yourself! She is my mentor and my counselor and I LOVE working with her…and soooo appreciate the person I am becoming as a result of better understanding my patterns and finding balance. Thank you Michelle!  I am freer…I more thoroughly enjoy myself and my relationships, and the circumstances I face every day. Life is smoother. I am softer. Thank you thank you. I’m looking forward to our next chat.”
Verena von Dehn

“Who knew that counseling could be fun?!  The best part of doing ongoing work with Michelle Gregg is that she uses the planets to make space for growth.  In just about every session, she holds me accountable (and we don’t have to blame my mother!), makes me laugh at circumstances out of my control, and helps me to navigate the challenges of the present.  She lets me wander out into the weeds sometimes, but then, by teaching me how to see a path where I thought there was no way, she opens doors to opportunities I had long written off.  With Michelle’s insights, I get to dance between the wholeness and brokenness of yesterday while celebrating the fullness of tomorrow.  For me, engaging in a long term relationship with Michelle means waking up to a brighter, more hopeful day each and every morning.”       –Corinne Dedini

“Michelle has the profound gift to take you on a journey to discover and understand the landscape of your internal world that affects every aspects of your external one. This knowledge gives you the true empowerment to affect changes in your life.  I have learned in working with Michelle over a period of time that the depth of understanding the self, translates into my ability to respond to the internal or external obstacles I am faced with in a way that creates breakthroughs from my negative habitual patterns with the most lasting positive effects in my life.”     –Dominique Sire

“Michelle is an extraordinary talent, combining an extensive knowledge of the humanities, Jungian psychology, and classical astrology into a unique approach that helps you find your place in your own life as well as the world at large. I flirted with therapists for it seems like forever, and never really found what I was looking for until I started working with Michelle on a regular basis…”
Michael Brandt

“Working with Michelle regularly over this past year has helped me to understand and work with the astrological cycles and energy patterns so that my life runs smoother and in a more balanced fashion.  I have experienced tremendous personal growth during this time as well and I owe it all to my regular sessions with Michelle.  I’m less stressed and much more prepared for what life has in store for me.”          –Laura Halpin

It’s that time again – Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio, Oct. 21 – Nov. 10, 2013

Mercury-Retrograde-Samhain-Halloween

Just a reminder that Mercury has been slowing down over the past few weeks and stationed (meaning he appears to have stopped) at 18 degrees of Scorpio on Friday, Oct. 18, and will turn Retrograde on Oct. 21. He will be Retrograde until Nov. 10, reaching back to 2 degrees of Scorpio. (Read the article Mercury Retrograde: The Unlikely Healing Gift here for an in-depth look at the meaning of this phenomenon in general, a bit of Mercury mythology, and how to navigate the Retrograde with better ease and understanding.)

If you’ve been feeling, like I have, that it seems Mercury Retrograde has already been happening for a while, remember that there are two shadow periods during every Retrograde phase. The pre-shadow that occurs for about 2 weeks when things feel as though they’re slowing down prior to the actual Retrograde and when, if you pay close attention, you are getting clues as to how a particular Retrograde period will impact you; and the post-shadow that occurs for about 3 weeks afterwards, when things are picking back up, but you are still integrating and seeking resolution. So really, the entire Mercury Retrograde phase takes about 8 weeks.

Mercury-Retrograde-diagram-of-movementOur typically fleet footed planet appears to slow down, stop, and then turn and trudge in the opposite direction once every 4 months. This phenomenon occurs when Mercury is at his greatest distance from the Sun (when he appears as the Evening or Morning Star), and then turns back toward the Earth, appearing to us as though he’s going backwards. It’s as though Mercury is conferring with the Sun who gives him information to bring back to Earth for the use of us mere mortals – thus Mercury’s ancient reputation as the Messenger of the Gods.

If you know your birthchart, look to the house that contains Scorpio, and to any planets in that house to gain understanding of how this particular Retrograde period will impact you. Also look to any planets in your birthchart that fall between 2 and 18 degrees and find what sort of angle (the geometric distance between) this Mercury in Scorpio is making to them. This will give you further insights.

Folks born between 1956 and 1970 all have Neptune in Scorpio. If you were born between late 1956 and late 1966 your Neptune is somewhere between 0 and 22 degrees of Scorpio, meaning that it is in range of being impacted by this particular Mercury Retrograde. If your natal Neptune is also in aspect to (having a significant geometric distance between) any of your natal personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars), then this Mercury Retrograde period could be a significant one for you.

Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio brings our inner attention to probing topics like sexuality, long-standing emotional issues, death and dying, our deepest psychological fears, profound shamanic healing and making the unconscious conscious. The tendency and purpose is to thin the veil between our typical movement away from these somewhat taboo areas of life and bring them into greater awareness – and ultimately greater integration. Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio can help us heal our Shadow. (What more perfect energy could be afoot for Samhain / Halloween / All Saints Day when the veil between the living and dead is reportedly thin, allowing connection between the two worlds!)

Mercury connected to Neptune (just for those late forties and fifty-somethings among us that I mentioned earlier) is a complex combination of energies. On the one hand Mercury and Neptune combined can bring up visionary experiences, loosen the imagination, prompt us to express our dreams and give voice to the images that arise from our Souls. On the other hand we can feel muddled in our thinking, express ourselves chaotically, or tune in to our fondest modes of escape – which can translate into a Mercury Retrograde double whammy. Watch for your tendencies, one way or the other, but understand that you have the choice of which way to direct yourself.

If you’d like help figuring this Mercury Retrograde phase out in your own life, please contact me ASAP for a Mercury Retrograde consult by emailing astrology@michellegregg.com. It will only set you back $25. Mayhem possible during Mercury Retrograde = frustration and anxiety. Navigating Mercury Retrograde with confidence = priceless. 🙂

Nov. 1, 2013 – Awakening and Transformation: The Uranus/Pluto Square

Uranus and Pluto

Here’s a bit on the current Uranus/Pluto square that has been in effect since 2008 (using a 10 degree orb of influence) and will be in effect, including what I call the “fall-out” period until 2020 and beyond. On November 1, 2013 the 2 planets will make their 4th of 7 exact squares to each other during that 8 year time period. This seems a good time to highlight what these 2 planets symbolize and how enormous changes have occurred during the years, in history and currently, marked by their connection to each other.

Uranus is in Aries at 9 degrees. Pluto is in Capricorn at 9 degrees. That means there is an exact 90 degree angle between these two planets in the sky right now. This 90 degree distance between 2 planets is known as a square aspect, and creates a dynamic tension between them and what they represent. (Perfect timing for a government shutdown and a stand-off between the right and the left.)

These two planets last came together (in a conjunction – meaning they were 0 degrees apart – sharing space in the sky and operating in tandem) in the 1960’s and we experienced dramatic social, political, technological, economic and personal changes across the world:

Bay of Pigs Invasion

Berlin Wall is built

Peace Corp is founded

The Soviet’s put the first man in space.

Andy Warhol exhibits his Campbell Soup Can

Cuban Missile Crisis

The Beatles storm the music scene and change the music industry forever.

JFK’s presidency and assassination

During that presidency Marilyn Monroe is found dead

MLK’s dream, the Civil Right’s movement, and subsequently MLK’s assassination

Nelson Mandela sentenced to life in prison

Japan’s Bullet Train opens

LA Riots

Malcolm X assassinated

New York City Great Blackout

US Sends Troops to Vietnam – The beginning of the Vietnam War

The Black Panther Party established

Mao Zedong launches the Cultural Revolution

Mass draft protests in the US

Star Trek airs for the first time

First heart transplant

Prague Spring

Bobby Kennedy’s assassination

Neil Armstrong is the first man on the moon

WOODSTOCK!

Yasser Arafat becomes the leader of the PLO

Total social revolution

The time before when Uranus and Pluto came together was in the 1930’s. At that time these two were in a square aspect. Like now, they were 90 degrees apart. During that decade we experienced dramatic social, political, technological, economic and personal changes across the world:

Disney launched the first Mickey Mouse cartoon

Penicillin is discovered

Stock Market crashes – Black Friday leads to the Great Depression

Pluto is discovered

Humans reach the Stratosphere

Empire State building is completed

Air conditioning is invented

We split the atom

Adolf Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany

Assassination attempt on FDR

First Nazi concentration camp is established – Germany issues anti-Jewish Nuremberg Laws

Social Security is enacted in the US

King Edward VIII abdicates the English Throne in favor of marriage to the divorcee Wallis Simpson

Golden Gate bridge is opened

The Hindenburg Disaster

Japan invades China

Broadcast of the “War of the Worlds” creates havoc

First commercial flight over the Atlantic

Helicopter invented

World War II begins

So – it seems worthwhile to look at the meanings of these two planets as they square each other in our own time.

Just below is info on Uranus and Pluto separately and together – very interesting!

Symbolism of Uranus

Positive: the light, highest heights, awakening, freedom, revolution, reform, fire from the Gods, the betterment of humanity as a whole, overturning the out-worn status quo, conscious perception, uniqueness, individualism, genius, mental and technological leaps, science, space, engineering, technology, inventions, electricity, radiation, lightening, aha! moments, ignition

Challenging: sudden impacting or shattering change, chaotic rebellion, erratic shifts, unexpected events, outcasts, the shunned, pronounced eccentricities, anarchy, radical anarchists, explosive and altering contact

What feelings come up for you when you read these keywords of Uranus?

One of my very favorite astrologers, who is so much more than that – he’s one of the most profound thinkers of our time and a prolific writer, professor and speaker – Richard Tarnas, wrote a book about Uranus called Prometheus The Awakener. In this book he compares the meaning of Uranus to the mythological figure Prometheus , who was rebellious enough and nervy enough to steal fire from the Gods and give it to humans to accelerate their evolution and break the hold that the Gods had over them. In this book he describes Uranus like this:

“Uranus is empirically associated with the principle of change, rebellion, freedom, liberation, reform and revolution, and the unexpected breakup of structures; with excitement, sudden surprises, lightning-like flashes of insight, revelations and awakenings; and with intellectual brilliance, invention, creativity, originality, and individualism. In addition to the occurrence of sudden breakthroughs and liberating events, Uranus transits are linked to unpredictable and disruptive changes, and thus the planet is often referred to as the “cosmic trickster.” In terms of personal character, Uranus is regarded as signifying the individualist, the genius, and the rebel.”

When I think of pure Uranus energy, the first person that comes to mind is Albert Einstein.

Symbolism of Pluto

Death, Transformation and Rebirth

Positive: the dark, deepest depths, intensity, deep and profound transformation, making the unconscious conscious, pure understanding of the cycles of life, alchemy, magic, shamanism, ultimate truth, pointed focus, depth psychology, the core of a matter, cycle of death & rebirth, true power of Self, purification, purging, nuclear energy

Challenging: power struggles, fear, terror, destruction, nuclear destruction, poison, trauma, putrefaction, decay, crime, criminal minds, obsession, suppression, the underworld, taboo subjects kept from society, shadow, the deepest depths, isolation, subversion, hidden agendas, waste, black magic

What feelings come up for you when you read these keywords of Pluto?

Archetypally speaking, Pluto represents the necessity of descending to the depths before you can ascend to the heights. It is the story of the phoenix – who out of hubris flew too close to the Sun and fell burned to the Earth – but! He then transformed his own ashes into a better, stronger version of himself and was able to ascend – to fly again – perfected.

Pluto also represents alchemy – the process of changing the base matter (lead) into the purified gold.

Pluto points to karma and to the needs of the Soul – our desire to learn the lessons in our lifetime that will purify us and evolve us – getting us closer to God.

Pluto will most often, when transiting our birthchart at a sensitive point or personal planet, take us down into darkness of some kind, where we undergo challenges necessary to purify us in some way, and then we come back into the light to continue our transformation.

An example of this process is in the story of Persephone in Greek Mythology. Pluto (or Hades in the Greek) decided that he wanted the young innocent daughter of Gaia, The Earth Mother for his own. So he abducted her, dragged her into the underworld, and did unspeakable things to her. Yet – over time – Persephone was transformed into a queen in her own right. Via this traumatic experience, the innocent maiden was transformed into a woman and queen, and later spent half of her time on Earth with her Mother and half of her time in the Underworld with Pluto.

One of the most poignant examples of this Pluto energy is the crucifixion of Christ (and other mythological characters whose stories are very similar) The story very literally describes the Pluto process: crucified, dead, and buried. The 3rd day he arose from the dead and ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father Almighty – perfected and purified.

When I think of pure Pluto energy, I think of Lord Voldemort (the lower vibration energy of Pluto) and Harry Potter (the higher vibration energy of Pluto.)

Meaning of Uranus & Pluto Together

So, 3 songs I think of when I think about Uranus and Pluto dancing in the sky together are:

1. Revolution by The Beatles – written during a Uranus/Pluto conjunction in the 1960’s

2. The Times They Are A’Changing  by Bob Dylan – written during a Uranus/Pluto conjunction in the 1960’s

3. It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) by REM – written during a Saturn/Uranus conjunction in 1987 (definitely different but similar)

Pluto describes bringing into consciousness from the absolute depths. Uranus describes breaking the status quo. Pluto describes transformation. Uranus describes revolution.

Here’s something helpful from another of my favorite books.

According to Banzhaf and Haebler in the book Key Words for Astrology:

Uranus and Pluto Together = Metamorphosis

Archetype: The Rebel and the Powerful Person

(An archetype, one of the primary ideologies in the psychological teachings of Carl Jung, is a primordial or purely inherent and instinctive form in the psyches of all people, no matter where they are or what culture they are from. Archetypes cross cultural boundaries and are experienced as similar instructive forces by all people, everywhere. These shared archetypes, these shared forms in the psyche, impel human behavior and experience. They are expressions of a Collective Unconscious shared by all human beings. Examples of archetypes are The Great Mother, The Absent Father, The Golden Child, The Seductress, The Hero, The Underdog, The Mysterious Stranger – etc. etc. etc.)

So let me say that one again…

Archetype of Uranus and Pluto together: The Rebel and the Powerful Person

Shadow: The Eccentric and the Power of Darkness

General meaning: Sudden deep reaching changes. Rebellion against dependence and suppression. Bursting the bonds.

In Harmony: Desire for freedom. Powerful urge for individual freedom. Sudden perceptions and insights into power structures or collective shadow areas. Rigorous upheavals. Liberation movements.

In Discord: The Despot. Willful, irresponsible misuse of power for questionable, eccentric goals. Extreme inner tension and vacillations between highest heights and deepest depths, between total freedom and complete constraint.”

We can see then, from the words of these folks that the effects of Uranus and Pluto coming together has to be far reaching and life changing. And we are meant to change personally as a result. We are meant to awaken to our ability as a society to change the deeply rooted, dark and subjugating powers that be, bring them to light, demand freedom from them and then transform to the new way of being.

The Uranus/Pluto Square has seven dates when the two planets are exactly 90 degrees apart… meaning that the effects of the square are the strongest at these times.

The Seven Epic Squares between Uranus and Pluto – 2012 through 2015

June 24, 2012
September 19, 2012
May 20, 2013
November 1, 2013
April 21, 2014
December 14, 2014
March 16, 2015

After that last date, the two planets are still what we call “in orb” meaning that they are close enough to the exact square that the effects are in play through 2016/2018 and perhaps beyond.  I’m sure that when future generations look back on the historic changes in our time, they will catch their breath at the intensity and profound changes that occurred – just as we do when we look back to the 1930’s and the 1960’s.

Lovliness – The New Moon in Pisces – March 11, 2013

Leda by Gustave Moreau

Leda by Gustave Moreau

“The term hieros gamos is used generally to refer to the sacred marriage between two divinities, or between a human being and Mother/Father God, or between two human beings (under certain special conditions); the ultimate alchemy of forces which harmonize polar opposites.”

Enjoy today’s New Moon in Pisces at 3:51 PM Eastern… what a lovely energy! Sun, Moon, Venus and Mars all conjoined in the sign of spiritual union and loving transcendence… use this energy at the highest vibration, connecting to the Divine via art, romance, alleviating suffering, and inspired creativity. This is the energy of the Sacred Marriage. Stay out of the shadow… disillusion, deception and escape. Have a gorgeous New Moon all!

January 26, 2013 – Full Moon today in Leo – Remember what you began 6 months ago…

White-Lion

Happy Full Moon everyone!! Today is the Full Moon in Leo (Moon entered Leo at 9:20 AM and will be full at 11:38 PM Eastern Time). Below is a beautiful meditation from the August 17 New Moon in Leo that you can do to connect you with Leo energy. Whatever you began then, 6 months ago, should either be coming to fulfillment, or have reached a denouement. And today, also look at what you started 2 weeks ago at the New Moon in Capricorn (it just missed being in Aquarius). Think about what is coming to fruition now that you began at those 2 times and really connect with the cycles of creation that you initiate. Everything happens in cycles – so it only makes sense to be aware of and to connect with them!

This meditation was created at the New Moon – so it is geared toward new beginnings – not what the Full Moon is for. As you read it, do so with eyes and heart toward fulfillment rather than initiation. Maybe this will jog your memory around whatever you began then – in Aug. 2012.

New Moon in Leo Meditation from August 17, 2012

January 25, 2013 – By the Light of the Moon – Moon in Cancer – Emotions may feel counter to our relationships today… or maybe they’re mirrors of each other

“A career is wonderful, but you can’t curl up with it on a cold night.”
~Marilyn Monroe

The sign of the Zodiac the Moon occupies changes about every 2-and-a-half-days and as she orbits she makes different connections to other planets, touching all of them in different ways as she speeds her way through the sky. Each of us will resonate to the energies of the flirting, capricious Luna in different ways and with different reactions according to the energies of our own birthcharts – our own dispositions and levels of consciousness. However, this comes as a guide to help you understand which fickle face our Lady Moon is showing today.

If you know your birthchart, or at least your Sun, Moon, or Rising signs (or better yet – all three – and if you don’t know any of them, maybe it’s time for you to send me an email) knowing where the Moon is will help you understand how to navigate your day and why you may be feeling the way you are or why you’re having the reactions or responses that you’re having.

***Today the Moon is in it’s final day of being in the sign of Cancer for the next month, having moved into that sign on Jan 23, and she’s opposing Venus in Capricorn. (Personally I’m ready for Venus to move into the lighter feeling Aquarius! That happens on February 1.)

When the Moon opposes Venus we have a connection of the two “feminine” planets – the Moon representing our emotions, Mother, family, home, and traditions, and Venus representing how we give and receive love, and what we value and find beautiful, as well as our resources/money – after all, we draw to us what we value. With this combination, as with all planetary combinations, we can operate from the highest possible vibration or the lowest – or somewhere in between. Today’s option, on the lower end, is to experience discord between our emotional selves and those whom we love. We could find that we are torn between our relationships and what we desire, between the need for security and a safe haven and the need to authenticate ourselves and our ambitions and keep moving forward. It could be the classic balancing act of home/family and career/business.

On the high road, we could find that the enduring we love we have for our families and our traditions is the perfect mirror for our sense of home and hearth and all who are there… our traditions and how we value them could play a part in how this day unwinds emotionally.

It would be great if part of today is spent in preparation for tomorrow’s Full Moon in Leo. That simply means looking back over the past 2 weeks (from the New Moon in Capricorn on  January 11) and over the past 6 months (since the New Moon in Leo in August) and thinking about what is coming to fullness – to fruition – in your life. Connecting to our cycles is a very positive way to stay connected to our intentions. What were your intentions 6 months ago? Are they coming to fulfillment now?

Enjoy this day of family – even if your family is really your friends, or your Calico or Golden Retriever. Extend love and watch it mirror back…

January 23, 2013 – By the Light of the Moon – Moon in Gemini is Void of Course today…

woman-reading

That lustrous orb that sweeps our oceans to and fro is also the harbinger who describes and defines our day-to-day fluctuating energy. As the face of the Moon is ever changing, so are the feelings and intuitions that push and pull us through our daily rounds. If you know your birthchart, or at least your Sun, Moon, or Rising signs (or better yet – all three – and if you don’t know any of them, maybe it’s time for you to send me an email) knowing where the Moon is playing and who she’s playing with will help you understand how to navigate your day and why you may be feeling the way you are or why you’re having the reactions or responses that you’re having.

I’m going to try to write this everyday for you – or at least, most days. No promises being made here, but I hope the days I manage it, that you’ll find some peace, and maybe even gain a little edge, in knowing. I want to dedicate this effort to Kat. She told me that she missed my posts. So Kat – this if for you. If any of you enjoy this lovingly crafted energetic gift – please let me know! It will help to keep me motivated to continue…

(The above 3 paragraphs will be repeated each “By the Light of the Moon” post, so if you’ve read it before and know it by heart, just skip to the stuff just below.  All times given in this column are Eastern time. )

All apologies for missing yesterday’s “By the Light of the Moon!” Some life events are going on and my time has become a bit more limited, but I’ll be posting as often as possible to keep you updated on where our lovely Luna is currently, with all the how and why.

Today, she’s still in Gemini and peeling out on her own, away from all the other planets. (Just FYI, in Astrology we usually refer to both the Sun and Moon as planets… just makes it easier than constantly saying the luminaries or the lights etc.)

That means that the Geminian emotional symbolism is pretty pure (which I’ll describe just below), not being qualified by other connections – and also means that the Moon is Void-of-Course almost the entire day: from 6:42 AM when she contacted Mars, until 1:36 AM Eastern tomorrow morning. If you’ve read my previous posts on what the Void-of -Course Moon means then you’re ahead of the curve. During a Void Moon our right brains are usually more engaged, meaning that logical, linear exercises – both personal and in business – might not be the best courses of action to push. They may certainly be there, with the Moon in Gemini, but pushing anything is probably not a great idea! During this period of time, it’s probably best to engage creatively, to NOT be married to a particular outcome, and to be more internal than external. Often times the Void Moon is a time of hit-or-miss action, so don’t be surprised if things don’t connect strongly with others today. For a refresher you can read here.

So – the Moon in Gemini. That’s today. I’d expect a bit of restlessness, fluctuating moods, and curiosity. We could engage in busy work to pass the time because it might be challenging to focus on a goal or to make decisions, so I suggest that it’s a wonderful day to read… that’s a great Gemini activity that works well with the Void Moon. A Gemini moon is clever though, so don’t squelch it, just don’t push anyone else into your ideas until a later time, because the connection you’re hoping for or the desired outcome could be out of reach.

I’d say enjoy this intellectual “down-time” day and give your mind free reign to discover and explore!

January 21, 2013 – By the Light of the Moon – Today’s Moon in Gemini and lots of exciting energy!

Obama-inauguration-2009-2

(The above 3 paragraphs will be repeated each “By the Light of the Moon” post, so if you’ve read it before and know it by heart, just skip to the stuff just below.  All times given in this column are Eastern time. )

About 9AM Eastern (6AM Pacific) this morning the Moon moves from earthbound Taurus into heady Gemini, and because both the Sun and Mercury moved from Capricorn into another bright air sign, Aquarius, over the weekend, the heavens and our intellects could feel a bit clearer – a bit lighter. Mercury and Uranus connect honing our minds and sharpening our tongues as well, so this seems to be a pretty high energy day, especially for folks with lots of air signs represented in their charts (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius). The fire signs will be at home with this energy as well (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius).

Today should prove to be one during which our ideas flow easily and we feel the need to trample the box we’ve been living in to get a breath of fresh air outside it.  Expect a bit of the unexpected…

However, challenges may come from Neptune, particularly earlier in the day. Our emotions are being pulled toward optimism and the search for meaning, the need to expand and express via a very close connection to Jupiter, but simultaneously Neptune insists that we not let go of our fantasy, our addiction, our yearning or our loss – whatever the case may be. The Aquarius and Gemini influences want us to use our logic and mental fortitude, Jupiter wants us to learn and grow, but Neptune wants us to experience the spiritual, the psychic, the nebulous. There may be confusion and there may simply be daydreaming to take the edge off of our genius. It will be interesting to see how all of these combine together and what will result.

It seems to me that Jupiter and the Moon in Gemini, and Uranus in Aries, will drive the day despite the either visionary or escapist tendencies of Neptune, and that means a restless spirit, clever action, and the wheels of the mind working smartly. It also means that we’re emotionally attached to putting our message or our mission out into the world with the certainty of our right-ness (rightousness?) – that’s the Jupiter part. And we could certainly be feeling the need for independence and freedom.

Speaking of independence and freedom – today is the public inauguration of President Obama! The planets are really set up beautifully with his birth chart for this event, and it should be fun to watch how he uses these really positive energies. The Moon and Jupiter are triggering his Chiron/Pluto opposition though, so we should watch for any woundedness from the past and possibly some emotional power plays that could emerge. But I think for the most part we’ll see a very confident face and lots of optimism.

And again, speaking of independence and freedom – what a great sky we have for honoring one of our nation’s greatest heros, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We’ve got Neptune for his dream, Jupiter for his vision for the future, and Uranus symbolizing his life as a catalyst for new paradigm. All connected to the Moon – our emotional selves and our country. Perfect.

For most of us, this can prove to be a very social day – so don’t sit still somewhere alone if you can help it. And enjoy!

Taking a break from “By the Light of the Moon” Sat. & Sun. – but here’s a bit about the Moon in Taurus over the weekend…

Taurus-bull-content

Hi All!

I so appreciate all of you and the fantastic response I’ve had for my new column “By the Light of the Moon.”

Last weekend the readers dropped, as I expected them to, so this weekend and on weekends in the future, I’ll take a writing break on Saturdays and Sundays and be right back to it on Mondays. Hope that sounds fair!

This weekend, the whole weekend, the Moon is in Taurus. So just quickly here (I can’t help myself!) the Moon in Taurus wants good food, good drink, sensual affection and to revel and be still in what it has and where it is. Taurus likes to be near its possessions – and enjoy them. So cook at home, eat, drink and make your lover happy! No sudden changes needed or desired.

Saturday, there’s an opposition from the Moon to Saturn, so issues around feeling isolated/low or around family/mother might arise. If you’re single, give yourself permission to stay home and enjoy the down time. Thinking about it, digestion might not be that great though. On the high road of this equation, our feelings of commitment, stability and security may be stirred and we can find contentment in them.

Sunday, the Moon squares Mars… possibly a recipe for high tempers. Mars in Aquarius wants to go, do and discover, while the Moon in Taurus wants to stay in and commune with family at home. I don’t know who, or which part of you, wins this debate, but watch for overly defensive or overly aggressive tendencies with this combo. Best case? Compromise… and have another glass of wine.

Thanks and have a great weekend!!

Michelle
