The Sagittarius Full Moon – again! – and the Summer Solstice of June 20, 2016

Couple-overlooking-mountains-with-moon-and-balloons

Welcome to the second Full Moon in Sagittarius (7:02 AM EDT today, June 20, 2016) in a row… that’s pretty unusual! This Moon is called The Strawberry Moon, signifying to our early Native Americans that it was time to pick ripened fruit. (Maybe we can use that symbolism metaphorically. What ripened fruit is it time for you to pick?) This Full Moon also occurs at the 29th degree of Sagittarius, with the Sun at the 29th degree of Gemini, which is a very special degree. Add to that the Summer Solstice beginning today when the Sun moves into Cancer at 6:34 PM EDT, and we have very exciting energies to explore!

There are several different ways to come to this Full Moon. First I invite you to think back to 6 months ago, specifically Dec. 11, 2015, when the Moon was New in Sagittarius. Can you remember anything that you may have been excited or anxious about? Anything you were just beginning or making decisions on? Today is a culmination of that time, a moment of en-lighten-ment around whatever was going on in your life then. I also invite you to look back to a little over a year ago – May 2, 2015. This was the last Sagittarius Full moon until last month’s  (on May 21) – so we’ve come a full year’s cycle since then. What has occurred for you emotionally during the past year? Track back and really think about what has come to fruition for you, and whether you have evolved in meaningful ways emotionally – perhaps pushing past boundaries and creating higher, broader parameters, which is what the Sagittarius Moon requests of us. Or perhaps you’ve devolved? In which case, you have another opportunity to become unstuck and get moving.

With-this-fiery-MoonSecond, this Full Moon in Sagittarius at the critical 29th degree seems to be highlighting relationships pretty “loudly.”  With this fiery Moon in opposition to Venus, the planet of all things “love” and the ways of being that go with it, there’s an immediate understanding that this lunar event impacts us where we relate to others. Add to that a square to Chiron, our friendly karmic relationship indicator, as well as a trine to Juno, who wears the crown of symbolizing relationship from a karmic commitment perspective, and we have a relationship karmic cocktail. Juno, amazingly, is also at that 29th degree – of Libra in her case – which just happens to be the sign of, you guessed it, relationship. That critical 29th degree carries the energy of taking a new direction, sometimes in a completely unexpected way that belies our past ruminations and carefully laid plans. (And don’t get me wrong, I’m thinking positive here!) Degree 29 can carry a fated quality to it, and sometimes has us feeling a bit out of control. So there can be questions around our commitments, or, and better, opportunities to refresh them!

One other ally in this cosmic lunar posse pushing us to “clean” our love auras is Uranus – that feisty renegade who calls it like he sees it, and breaks down the status quo. So at this Saggy Full Moon, I’m imagining there may be some culminating moments providing us opportunities to clear our love alliances, particularly those with whom we carry karma. There can be enormous healing during this Full Moon energy… healing that allows us to attend to our loved ones with more acceptance of their uniqueness. Healing that opens the doors of the past and the future, asking us to balance our need for freedom and independence within relationship with our deep caring and devotion of our loved ones. This isn’t the time to be proud or stubborn, but a time to talk, to risk the truth, to stand by our commitments in a more faith-ful way, in order to create something more authentic – something that feeds our vitality and our emotional health. For many, I know there’s a whole lot of YUMMY that can happen with this Full Moon…

Thirdly, Mercury is also at 29 degrees in this Full Moon chart… and it’s creating a trigger point to the Saturn / Neptune square. How does this land? We need to talk. We need to talk about what makes us feel safe and secure. We need to talk about what confuses us, and about our pasts – not to create an environment of judgement, but to create an environment of acceptance and grace. Let’s get past the fears and anxieties that are holding us back (Saturn), be open about our dreams and our vision for the future (Neptune), and create a goal for our compassion – a goal for our spiritual evolution. And then make a commitment to it! You know what happens when we make a real commitment. All heaven and earth move to support it… And with Jupiter also involved in this mix, we can truly benefit from positive thinking here.

One-World-One-Love-One-Community-Global-Hands-HeartFourthly (and I’m about to get political) I like to think of Sagittarius as being “the citizen of the world.” That’s the phrase that Banzhaf & Haebler use in the book Key Words for Astrology as the by-line for Sagittarius. “The citizen of the world.” That’s always stuck in my mind. In the past 30 days we’ve been sandwiched between two culminating points – two Full Moons in the sign Sagittarius – highlighting who we are as citizens of the world. And with the deadliest mass shooting in the history of our country just behind us, we are left pondering – at least I hope we are – how we go about being better citizens of our world. Perhaps that’s the reason we’ve had two Sagittarius Full Moons in a row… so that we must use this emotionally charged energy to become wiser citizens of the world – to become righteous about gun control despite previous blocks preventing that effort, to become higher minded around, and more tolerant of, those who have different lifestyles. The 15-hour gun control filibuster on the the Senate floor this past Thursday, led by Senator Chris Murphy, is a perfect example of Sagittarius energy “having enough” and “stump thumping” to make a point of justice. And sadly, the horrific actions of the shooter are also an example of the lowest possible vibration of Sagittarius at work – being so self-righteous and filled with the fervor of your cause that you take life, feeling somehow justified in your actions. The shooting and the filibuster occurred between 2 Sagittarius Full Moons, the second one at the critical 29th degree – meaning we’ve reached a critical turning point, and while we may not follow any plans we’ve previously put in place, and we may be feeling overwhelmed – we know we must go in a new direction. Fate is in play here, and that new direction must have greater meaning and a higher purpose, and point us toward freedom and justice – for everyone – as we move forward. All Sagittarian qualities. (An interesting point: the 1:58 AM chart for the Orlando shooting, when the first gunfire was heard, has THE SAME DEGREE – 29 degrees Sagittarius – on the MC – the most elevated point in the chart, which is the angle that shows how we see that moment in the greater world. Blows my mind.)

The key here is meaning… what expanded awareness and meaning can we derive from these events, and how do we move positively forward with that meaning? And how do we derive wisdom from something so horrifying? The comedian Hasan Minhaj addressed members of the press and members of Congress at the 72nd Annual Radio and Television Correspondents’ Association Dinner this past Wednesday evening – 3 nights after the shooting. He said something in his address -a very Sagittarius address I might add – that seems to push us toward the higher vibration of Sag – striving for higher things, and expanding our awareness. He said, “Stuff like this (the mass shooting) is going to continue to happen unless we recognize that civil liberties are an all or nothing game. A rising tide lifts all boats. It’s not pick or choose. So whether you like it or not, we all have to step up and fight for each other – otherwise the whole thing is a sham.” A “rising tide” pulled by these Sagittarius Moons. That’s what I’m thinking. It all seems quite a bit zeitgeist-y.

(If you want to see comedian Hasan Minhaj’s full address click here. The first 18 minutes are funny in a “roast” kind of way. The famous 5 minutes begin at 18:16 – but watch the whole 23 minutes if you can.)

Fifthly – Happy Summer Solstice! The Solstice officially happens at 6:34 PM when the Sun moves into the sign of  Cancer. As the longest day of the year, with more hours of sunlight than any other, most of us wait all year for this special day. It’s the FUN time of year! But as I mentioned previously, this Sagittarius Full Moon occurs at 29 degrees. The 29th degree of any sign is known as a “critical degree” or the “anaretic degree” meaning we’re coming to the end of one way of being and moving into another – a complete change of direction. Sometimes that change feels fated, or out of our control, but the change needs to happen. So as you’re soaking in the sun, soak in the meaning of this Full Moon as you think about your Summer. How will you be changing directions? What is your highest calling? Toward what direction will you be shooting your arrow of intent, and where will you be seeking meaning and purpose? This bright moon, this enlightened moment, is the perfect time to answer these questions.

P.S. It’s interesting to have a Full Moon in Sagittarius – the sign connected with the Winter Solstice – the shortest day of the year – on the longest day of the year! Here we are in the fullness of Summer with the Sun at it’s highest point (in the Northern Hemisphere), while the emotional energy around us is reminiscent of the shortest. Hhhhhhmmmmm. That just occurred to me – not quite sure what to do with it yet, but I’m thinking.

Moon In Cancer makes a Dreamy Connection to Neptune Today – Nov. 30, 2012

Where-Your-Heart-Is

The Moon moved into Cancer this morning and for most of the day it makes a beautiful, flowing connection to the planet Neptune… I’m definitely feeling the pull into my fantasies. The Moon in Cancer carries a very sensitive, nurturing awareness and Neptune is the experience of compassion, grace, and the Divine. It tugs us into daydreams and illusions, shadowing concrete perceptions with a nebulous shimmer – dissolving hard edges and sharp points. It’s the perfect day to get lost in poetry, art or a movie… and also the perfect day to meditate or spend time in nature connecting to your heart… to your dreams… to Source.

Pure Moon/Neptune energy affords boundlessness, longing and mystical experiences. This could be a gentle day of emotional transcendence or a nightmare of chaotic confusion and the need to escape. Try to flow with the energy positively to ensure the higher experience – showing compassion to others, allowing yourself time to engage your dreams, finding beauty and artistic perfection in whatever is in front of you. Images take on a more intense, amplified meaning and may move us more than usual, so let yourself ebb and flow with that sort of experience. Be aware of beauty, of romance, of empathy and engage with the feelings that come up.

Tomorrow as the Moon connects with Pluto and Mars you can put today’s dreams and fantasies into powerful action.

Once-in-a-Lifetime: Transit of Venus Interview with Adam Gainsburg and Michelle Gregg

Adam Gainsburg and Michelle Gregg – Astrologers chatting about the meaning of the Once-in-a-Lifetime Transit of Venus…

CLICK TO LISTEN TO INTERVIEW

As most of you already know, we were fortunate to be alive for a very rare sky event called the Transit of Venus. This “eclipse-like” event of Venus traversing across the face of the sun only happens in pairs, every hundred and five years. We were incredibly fortunate to have been here for both the 2004 and the just-past June 5th & 6th, 2012 Transits of Venus. The next pair won’t occur again until 2117 and 2125!

What does this amazing Transit mean to you?

I got Adam Gainsburg, a true expert on Venus, on the phone to talk with him about exactly that. And he had some pretty amazing things to say!

So please listen here to what can only be called a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity…

A Meditation for the Transit of Venus

The Birth of Venus by Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) Oil on Canvas – Musee d’Orsay, Paris, France

I hope you’ll join me in this simple meditation of love, inspired by today’s very rare transit of Venus across the sun.

The Transit of Venus happens today from 6pm to Midnight Eastern Time. Calculate the difference for your own time zone, and then at some point during the transit (if possible), please read aloud or listen to the following meditation on love:

Please breathe deeply, sit up comfortably, relax your body, relax your brow, hands arms and legs and if you can, place your bare feet on the floor or the ground.

A Meditation of Intention for the Transit of Venus

At this rare moment in life, the Transit of Venus across the face of the Sun, I put forward my intentions of living my life with MORE LOVE. Love of my family, my significant other, my children, my pets, and my friends. At this remarkable historic event, I co-create a more loving, more compassionate world – from my small world of neighbors, family, friends and co-workers to my local community, to my city, to my country and to the whole of the greater world. It is my desire that all who live now both give and receive the ultimate gift of unconditional love and unquestioned respect every day of their lives. It is my hope that we as human beings, living a spiritual life in a physical existence, bridge our differences and learn acceptance of each other through the love that is present in all moments in time. I feel the loving shift happening around me and choose to consciously participate. I allow my inner feminine to lead me with intuition and grace to a deeper understanding of love and forgiveness – of myself, of those around me, and those I will never meet. I fully embrace MORE LOVE and am now a willing conduit for it. My values are based on LOVE, now and forever.

NOTE: If you aren’t able to participate in the Meditation during the actual Transit of Venus – NO WORRIES! Please feel free to use this meditation anytime in the coming months and as often as possible to encourage and participate a powerful shift in consciousness in your life and in the world.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius – June 4, 2012 – A Meditation

Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius – Endings and beginnings that lead to greater wisdom and fuller understanding of others.

I woke up just minutes before the exact moment of the Lunar Eclipse, and these feelings came bubbling up and out. Please take a moment to settle into a quiet frame of mind and meditate in a joyous way as you listen or read:

Listen Here

At this Full Moon, this Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, when the darkness leads to light, I am illuminated through the earthly ways of others and embrace them consciously – opening my heart to a learning experience that will pave the way to greater wisdom. I seek out new ways of being via those who are different than me, explore their beliefs, their cultures, their religions, in an effort to expand my own awareness and ACCEPTANCE of EVERYONE as worthy of love and honor and respect. I leave off with morality judgements, pride, hubris and self-righteousness – understanding that these divide me from others and from grace – rather than unite. I focus on living and sharing my noble-mindedness, recognizing the good and godly in others and in myself. At this Lunar Eclipse, this wondrous Full Moon in Sagittarius, I travel through life with optimism and enthusiasm, trusting my intuition to lead me on the true path of the evolution of my mind, of my heart and of my soul to new a wisdom, sourced by Love. I feel the wonder, the exuberance and the sheer joy of life, and live always from that space.

Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius and the Transit of Venus = More LOVE!

We’re in a moment in time that is a rare and perfect opportunity to come together as a global community and create a more loving, more compassionate reality via our conscious intentions during the Lunar Eclipse on June 4, 2012 (7:13 AM Eastern) in conjunction with the literally once in a lifetime Tranist of Venus on June 5/6 (6:00 PM through Midnight Eastern).

This moment of unconditionally loving feminine energy, via the Moon and Venus together across the signs of Sagittarius and Gemini, contains the seeds of change. This is a portal that we can step through if enough of us intend together… a portal to a more loving, compassionate and forgiving future as human beings living together on this tiny blue planet.

Don’t let this opportunity pass by! The Transit of Venus across the face of the Sun is a rare event that occurs in pairs only every 100 year intervals. This won’t happen again in our lives…

The words to focus on right now and for the next several days are MORE LOVE.

Here are links to some really great information about Venus Retrograde, the Eclipse and the Transit of Venus… please read, watch and enjoy! And then with the power of your mind and the love in your heart, intend a more loving, forgiving world for us all!

Let’s Talk Relationships: Venus in Pisces = The Art of Loving, For Better or Worse

The Birth of Venus by Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) Oil on Canvas - Musee d'Orsay, Paris, France

What do you think of when you think of the planet Venus? The morning star? The evening star? She is both at different times of the year. Or do you think of her unusual brightness in the sky – so much brighter than all the other planets, paling only in comparison to the Moon to our eyes. Though perhaps you might think of the Roman Goddess of Love or her Greek counterpart, Aphrodite. They were both revered as Goddesses of fruitfulness, beauty and love.

In astrology, Venus’ symbolism comes from these beauties of old, encompassing the depths of love, relationship, beauty, the arts, harmony and partnership. She is the embodiment of eroticism, grace, devotion and longing… wonderful you say, but what does that mean to me?

On Jan. 14, 2012, the lovely, bright planet moved out of the sign of Aquarius and into the sign of Pisces, where she’ll be biding her time for the next 3 weeks, until Feb. 8, 2012 (Venus stays in each sign about 20 days or so in her ceaseless orbit – so mark your calendar). Because Aquarius and Pisces are such different signs with very little in common, the move from one sign to the other can be very distinctively felt, particularly for those of you with the Sun or other planets in the sign of Pisces, not only because Venus is currently occupying your sign, but because as a Pisces influenced Soul you’re so tuned in. And as of this past Saturday, Venus is energizing not only Pisces but the other 3 mutable signs as well: Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius. (To find out where your planets are visit http://www.astro.com and set up free birth chart.)

[Here’s a brief lesson in the Mutable signs (meaning they are adaptable and changeable): there are 4 Mutable signs (out of the 12 total Zodiac signs) and they all form a 90 degree angle to each other – meaning they are “squared.” This angular relationship is very dynamic, tense and challenging requiring some sort of release – when one of the 4 signs is affected, they all are. (The same is true for the other 2 sets of “4’s.” The Cardinals are: Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn. The Fixed signs are: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio & Aquarius. We’ll have reason to talk about them later.)]

But back to how the movement of Venus into Pisces affects you.

Venus is essentially the value we place on experience at the inner level. And in Pisces where she is exalted, Venus expresses the need to relate, to love, to experience beauty through the lens of either transcending or escaping reality. (The idealism of the first several weeks of a new intimate relationship come to mind with all its excitement, sexual perfection, and the bliss of union   – both escapist and transcendent!) If transcendence is our valued path, we align with the archetypes of Jesus, Buddha – all spiritually transcendent teachers.  While Venus is in Pisces, those of us sensitive to it, may also experience a heightened sense of romanticism. We may dream of, long for, whatever we value in the depths of our being… whether that is forbidden love, the desire to help the less fortunate, the ecstasy of  the way music moves us, delight in the expression of Nature all around us, or the bliss of self-expression through poetry, photography, or other form of art. If we’re not particularly artistic, we may find ourselves drawn to and drawn into art in a way we haven’t been for a long time… or ever.

Venus in Pisces is a gentle, loving and very accepting placement for the Goddess of Love and Romanticism. However, if this combination is in a challenging, not-to-be-ignored aspect to a sensitive part of your chart that doesn’t communicate agreeably, the escapist qualities of this placement may come to the fore. Confusion around relating could manifest, leaving us fragile and uncertain of our worth. We could experience either ego-inflation or ego-deflation – depending on how we’re wired. Either way, the desire to escape reality and prop ourselves up with our favorite escape route isn’t uncommon: too much drinking, too much shopping, too much exercise or couch potato-ing, or just the tendency to day dream our time away… you get the picture.

So the beauty of the Goddess of Love meeting Pisces – the sign ruled by Neptune the God of the Sea, is that of unification – the unfolding into the cosmic bliss of creativity and agape – love as revealed in selflessness, love that is spiritual, being wide open to grace. The not-so-beautiful side of this combination, if it doesn’t sit particularly well with you and the energies you were born with, is that of dis-grace… self-sacrifice, disillusion, victimization and lulling the self with (hopefully legal) self-medicating.

The wonderful thing is that you can choose. Do you want to learn and experience the high road of Universal love, beauty and transcendence, with the desire to either reach out and help your fellow-beings and the possibility to elevate your own spirituality? Or do you want to fall into self-deprecation and escapism, open to the possibility of deception and the willingness to to give up your power to another force. Those are the two extremes and certainly your experience is likely to be somewhere in-between. But when you know the options of the energy at hand, it’s liberating to know what awaits at the extreme end of either fork in the road.

Venus moved into Pisces on at 12:47 AM ET on Jan.14, 2012 - Aries Wheel

Happy Friday the 13th! A little Love and Romance on an Inauspicious Day…

Not the stuff of superstition...

I have a bit of hard time understanding the superstitious fears around Friday the 13th… and this year we’ve got 3 of ’em! So sorry to be the bearer of that inauspicious news to those of you who don’t relish this infrequent date. (After this year there won’t be another Friday the 13th until 2026 according to Charles Walford, columnist for Mail Online in the UK in this very eye opening article.)

Here are a couple of bits of Friday the 13th lore: Friday is considered unlucky in the Christian tradition because it is the day of Christ’s crucifixion. 13 is considered unlucky because Judas, the last and 13th to show up for the Last Supper, was the same disciple who betrayed Christ resulting in his crucifixion. And 13 is the number of turns of the rope that tie the hangman’s noose.

In just doing a little reading I’ve discovered that auto accidents really do go up A LOT on any given Friday the 13th (maybe due to anxiety?) and the real estate business slows down to a trickle… people just don’t want to buy on this inauspicious date and many won’t even think about buying a residence that has the number 13 attached to it. Who knew?

Well this particular Friday the 13th doesn’t have any black magic attached to it that I can see. So take a deep breath and let your fears subside.

This day looks to be largely about relationships according to the astrology at hand. Venus and Neptune are conjoined lending the possibility of  gentle romance, idealism, yearning for the Other (with the alternate possibility being deception or dissolution in relationships – so there is that to watch out for). Chiron, the Wounded Healer is involved with that combination as is the Moon – there is the potential for healing past transgressions now – particularly with family members and lost loves. And Saturn lends support to our relationships today, helping us to understand and define them and possibly helping to create stability. Mars strokes the Sun lending desire, strength of will and a bit of earthy assertion to the package while the Moon kisses Pluto and Mercury perhaps compelling some of us to want to dig deeply and emotionally for the truth in our relationships and, of course since it is Mercury, to talk about it.

If you are opting out of life today – staying home and out of trouble – watch romantic films, read  poetry, dive into art, or curl up with a good psychology book. Probably a great day to chat with friends, get the scoop on the stars (movie stars that is), and to re-connect. Have a glass or two of wine…

So, happy Friday the 13th! And have fun relating… family, friends, lovers – let them all know how you feel!

Today’s New Moon in Leo – Express Yourself and Feel the Love

New Moon - Dark of the Moon

New Moon - Dark of the Moon

heartThis is a special New Moon indeed. It lets us know that despite all that’s awry right now in our world, despite all the challenges that we face both personally and collectively, we are still a world filled with love. Leo is the ruler of the heart – both the actual physiological pump and the feelings that are stored and emitted from that wondrous organ of life. And the sign Leo is ruled by the Sun – that burning orb of expression. What we have then is our expressive selves becoming love through our emotional awareness. Mmmmm. Lovely.

If we’re becoming love, it stands to reason that we become loving of ourselves. And that’s perfect, because if we love ourselves, we express ourselves without guilt or fear, just as does the Sun. We love, we express, and then we are loved in return via the expression of others. The New Moon in Leo can bring out a win-win love fest for all of us if we a) let it happen, and b) express it!

And that’s not all. This New Moon in Leo is opposite Neptune, Chiron and Jupiter in Aquarius. Now we’re talking BIG UNIVERSAL love. We’re talking feelings that take us out of ourselves and into a higher dimension. Agape, an ancient Greek word has several meanings. It’s translated into English as “love”, but our love has too many meanings to do this word justice. It’s not “eros” or intimate, erotic love; it’s not “philia” or brotherly love. My favorite definitions of “agape” are “unconditional divine love” and “wide open”.  Take this New Moon and allow your love/heart center to be wide open, and to express what’s coming up and out of it in a universal, unconditional way.

Sliver of a New Moon

Sliver of a New Moon

Start something from your newly wide open, self-loving and unapologetically self-expressive heart today. In 14 days at the Full Moon, see if something loving comes to fruition as a result and then blossoms to fullness just before the next New Moon. And remember too that whatever you begin today and in the next couple of days, has both a six-month and 1-year cycle that’s being put into play. When you see the slightest sliver of the Moon in a day or two, remember what you’ve read here, and commit to a new start in self-love. Be wide open with your heart and accepting of universal, divine, other love, be expressive of your heart – your deepest desires and most wondrous joys.

Start love.
