Full Moon in Capricorn on July 3, 2012 Highlights the Uranus / Pluto Square – and Mars Moves Into Libra

July 3, 2012 was the Full Moon in Capricorn and there were quite a few challenging and ambitious energies present!

 

Today is the Full Moon in Capricorn and there are quite a few challenging and ambitious energies present!

The Moon and Sun themselves are setting off the current dynamic that is percolating between Uranus and Pluto, meaning that this lunar event activates the BIG EVENT going on in the sky right now. Pluto and Uranus are squaring off – developing the back drop of this generation – and that backdrop looks a lot like the need to change and transform on a revolutionary level. I’ll go more into that alignment in a future writing – but just know that today our emotions (Moon) and our egos (Sun) are caught up in that same sort of energy.

To move forward with that energy in a positive way, purge things that are no longer useful (Pluto), listen to your intuition (Uranus), allow yourself to go into your depths and pull up relevant information that can enlighten your future path (Pluto & Uranus together), fly your freak flag high and large – meaning don’t be afraid to let your unique gifts emerge and don’t keep your mouth closed when you see that you can make a difference in changing something that needs to be changed. And be a voice for the undergod – ok, so I meant to write underDOG there, but I’m leaving that mis-type to let you ponder what that might mean for a moment.

Pluto IS the underGOD – in Greek Mythology he was the God of Hades – the Lord of Death and the Underworld – and through him you were admitted into the after life and transformed. So this Sun/Moon opposition, i.e. Full Moon, sheds light on your emotions surrounding ambition/authority (Moon in Capricorn) and your ego attachments within domestic, home and family life (Sun in Cancer), while somehow pushing forward with tension between the shadow-self and enlightenment – possibly bringing you face to face with something that needs to die away to make room for the new. That’s quite a bit to think about… and as the Full Moon in general is seen as a time of culmination or a denouement since it occurs mid-way of the Moons monthly journey, juxtapose the creative energies that I just described onto your career and family life and see what you come up with.

Another thing just happening today is Mars moving from Virgo into Libra… this means that we are facing our fears and desires within the realm of relationship and that energy can run high and hot within them. It can translate to actively pursuing relationship, especially for the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.  With Mars in Libra we now want to be the hero or heroine of our own romantic journey, or possible we decide to actively pursue our artistic dreams and aspirations… this is a “Go for it!” when we’re on a quest for beauty and the sublime. Mars is not at his most comfortable in Libra – it’s the God of War meets the Lady of Peace and Justice – but there are up-sides.

The New Moon in Gemini, June 19, 2012 – Open Your Mind!

Viewing the Moon’s phases in our night sky is such a beautiful reminder that life runs in cycles – and that we benefit if we pay attention to those cycles.

 

I love New Moons!

And today is one in Gemini. (11:02 am Eastern Time)

They’re fresh and regenerative… offering us a time every month to begin anew… to have another chance at starting something.

The general purpose of any New Moon is to create a new beginning, just as the Moon begins a brand new cycle from her dark or invisible phase, waxing to a tiny crescent and then on to bold brightness at the Full Moon, and then gradually waning again to a tiny sliver – back to the dark. Viewing the Moon’s phases in our night sky is such a beautiful reminder that life runs in cycles – and that we benefit if we pay attention to those cycles. Moon watching is both a connection to all humanity through the ages and an incredible way to gain insight into life from all the symbolic meanings that follow her constant but fluctuating passage. Whenever you have the chance, go outside and really look deeply at the Moon. Ponder how her reflected light and the phase that she presents affects you. Somehow this practice brings us back to center and offers an inner contentment. At least that is my experience.

This particular New Moon in Gemini, the second New Moon in Gemini in a month (which is unusual, and the previous one was on May 20 and coincided with the Solar Eclipse) brings yet more emphasis on the workings of our minds, how we analyze new information, and how we communicate what we come up with. There has been an incredible amount of celestial focus on Gemini of late: The Solar Eclipse, the Transit of Venus, Venus Retrograde in Gemini, the Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius which is the opposite sign to Gemini (therefore part of the same axis) and the 2 New Moons. Wow.

So here’s my suggestion on what to bring in or start anew at this New Moon (and it’s sort of all tied in to Venus, because of the recent Transit of Venus and that she is still Retrograde in Gemini.)

OPEN YOUR MIND… STRETCH IT WIDE. (Please really think about what this can mean to you. Really THINK about what is new that your eyes can see.)

EXTEND YOUR THOUGHTS INTO THE REALM OF YOUR VALUES.

NOURISH YOUR IDEAS WITH WISDOM.

COMMUNICATE all of these new thoughts, more loving values, and freshly wizened ideals FROM THE HEART.

And because Mars is in very much in the mix today via a square to the Sun and Moon, allow yourself to be motivated!! Don’t block the wellspring of energy that is edging you toward something perhaps a little scary and outside your comfort zone.

ACT with MOTIVATED INTELLIGENCE.

All of this Gemini-ness and Venus-ness is a reminder that you are what you think you are – therefore think that you are LOVE. And with the influence of both Venus and Mars, desire and create from the heart.

That is all. But that is a lot!

P.S. Remember that tomorrow is the Summer Solstice, brought to us by the Sun moving into Cancer. Celebrate!

Happy Friday the 13th! A little Love and Romance on an Inauspicious Day…

Not the stuff of superstition...

I have a bit of hard time understanding the superstitious fears around Friday the 13th… and this year we’ve got 3 of ’em! So sorry to be the bearer of that inauspicious news to those of you who don’t relish this infrequent date. (After this year there won’t be another Friday the 13th until 2026 according to Charles Walford, columnist for Mail Online in the UK in this very eye opening article.)

Here are a couple of bits of Friday the 13th lore: Friday is considered unlucky in the Christian tradition because it is the day of Christ’s crucifixion. 13 is considered unlucky because Judas, the last and 13th to show up for the Last Supper, was the same disciple who betrayed Christ resulting in his crucifixion. And 13 is the number of turns of the rope that tie the hangman’s noose.

In just doing a little reading I’ve discovered that auto accidents really do go up A LOT on any given Friday the 13th (maybe due to anxiety?) and the real estate business slows down to a trickle… people just don’t want to buy on this inauspicious date and many won’t even think about buying a residence that has the number 13 attached to it. Who knew?

Well this particular Friday the 13th doesn’t have any black magic attached to it that I can see. So take a deep breath and let your fears subside. 

This day looks to be largely about relationships according to the astrology at hand. Venus and Neptune are conjoined lending the possibility of  gentle romance, idealism, yearning for the Other (with the alternate possibility being deception or dissolution in relationships – so there is that to watch out for). Chiron, the Wounded Healer is involved with that combination as is the Moon – there is the potential for healing past transgressions now – particularly with family members and lost loves. And Saturn lends support to our relationships today, helping us to understand and define them and possibly helping to create stability. Mars strokes the Sun lending desire, strength of will and a bit of earthy assertion to the package while the Moon kisses Pluto and Mercury perhaps compelling some of us to want to dig deeply and emotionally for the truth in our relationships and, of course since it is Mercury, to talk about it.

If you are opting out of life today – staying home and out of trouble – watch romantic films, read  poetry, dive into art, or curl up with a good psychology book. Probably a great day to chat with friends, get the scoop on the stars (movie stars that is), and to re-connect. Have a glass or two of wine…

So, happy Friday the 13th! And have fun relating… family, friends, lovers – let them all know how you feel!

The energies for the day focus on the Moon, Mars and Venus… think passion, acting from the heart, erotically charged energy with a desire for security in combination with opportunities for courageous encounters, harmony, beauty and loads of charm mixed in. 

Marilyn Monroe: Beauty, charm, eroticism, passion & insecurity - a perfect example of today's combination of Moon, Venus & Mars.

Moon in Cancer and Mars in Virgo are in a sextile combination – a sixty degree angle between them. That creates a fantastic time to act on your passions and to create some beautiful harmony and beautiful opportunities. But this is short lived so act now! It’s a perfect time to act courageously for a cause you really believe in – to be a champion for something worthwhile – particularly women and children.

Moon and Venus are moving into an opposition as the day progresses… if you balance these two energies well you get love, beauty, charm, and a lovely social environment. There can be a dreamy quality within. You may feel inspired by art – either creating or appreciating it. If these two energies are out of balance for you then you may feel a real longing for love and perhaps a need for security. You may feel that you have to choose between love/desire and security. This energy is strongest late night and into early morning Eastern Time. 

“Falling in love” is a phrase that comes to mind when I think of today’s energies. I don’t mean with a person per se, though that of course is possible. But falling in love with anything beautiful and worthy of your passion – a cause, art, a film, a child, an organization that champions something you believe in… let your heart go in this direction and see what you find yourself in front of.

When I think of the Moon, Venus and Mars combined, I can’t help but think of Marilyn Monroe. She was feisty and passionate like Moon/Mars, sexy and erotic like Mars/Venus, and always craving security, protection and love like the Moon in Cancer (today’s Moon placement and it’s natural  home).

Moon, Venus, Jupiter and the Sun = Lovely Day!

Despite the fact that politically, financially and environmentally things feel like they’re falling apart (the inevitable growing pains of transformation and evolution), and despite the fact that the astrological weather of late has been – well, let’s just say a little intense – today can be a  truly feel good day if you tap into the right energy.

The Moon is in Scorpio – not a light emotional expression to be sure – but it’s in lovely angle to both the Sun and Venus in Virgo. We can find opportunities here for a warm, caring social atmosphere (a neighbor who I see daily just walked by and for the first time smiled and waved at me through my window!) and sincere, deep expressions of caring and service are possible.

Add in a connection between the Moon and Jupiter and you have a recipe for balancing instincts with the intellect… a moment in time when spirits run high and we have fertile ground for pulling together our ethics with our emotions. And anytime the Moon and Jupiter get together we can tap into simple joy – an abundance of noble emotion is there for the asking.

The last feel good ingredient in today’s cosmic soup is a flow of good vibes between the Sun in Virgo and Jupiter in Taurus… at the least we can step forward with gentle confidence (nothing overt as Jupiter is retrograde) and with the assurance of success on some level.

It’s a great day to ponder the meaning of life and your place in it and to share those thoughts with friends and family. Enjoy this moment to catch your breath and relate to those you love!

Sitting in the grass on a moonless, cloudless night I gaze at the arch of the Milky Way, letting the forms of beloved constellations reveal themselves in the wealth of the luminaries. I sink back into a happy sense of my own nothingness before the certainty of the stars. I do not experience terror at this vastness of space-time, but an aspect of immensity that is comforting – all those stars and all the invisible worlds beyond them are necessary for me to come into existence. I am this immensity gazing into itself, born from the fire of its stars and cooled down enough to be able to think, see, and admire. No matter how remote these distant ancestors are, in this moment I know that we would not be without each other. A sense of awe sweeps through me.

A Total Eclipse of the Heart

The Total Solar Eclipse that honored Planet Earth on Aug. 1, 2008 at 6:22 AM EDT, is one that’s almost purely LEO energetically. At the time of the Eclipse the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, the South Node of the Moon and the Ascendant (the Ascendant from an Eastern Daylight Time perspective) were all in the creative, courageous sign of Leo! And these planets were situated such that they didn’t connect strongly with any other planets. Eclipses are major movers and shakers. They stir up stagnant energy and open new vortices of power. They are intense, hard to ignore and can be felt for months (some claim years) after the event. Eclipses proclaim, “Out with the old and in with the new!” What does it all mean?
